About My Practice

Relationship in counselling.png

In therapy, I work with adults experiencing challenges such as anxiety, relationship difficulties, complex trauma, stage of life changes, self-criticism, perfectionism, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, divorce, separation, and parenting concerns. Together, we will explore ways for you to feel more connected to yourself, more confident in your choices, and more aligned with who and what matters most to you.

The therapeutic approaches I use are grounded both in the training I have received and in approaches that genuinely resonate with how I understand human experience and change. Some approaches drew me in because they aligned with how I naturally process experience; others because research consistently demonstrates their effectiveness for specific concerns. In both cases, the therapies I use are approaches I deeply believe in and engage with authentically.

At the foundation of my work is a strong commitment to the therapeutic relationship, which is widely recognized as one of the most important factors in meaningful change. To support this connection, I strive to bring presence, openness, and self-awareness into each session. My ongoing personal practices—including yoga, mindfulness, and journaling—help me remain grounded and attentive in my work with clients.

I aim to meet you where you are and to move at a pace that feels supportive and manageable. While I always strive to understand your experience accurately, there may be moments when I misread an emotion, suggest a direction that does not feel quite right, or when unexpected reactions or emotions emerge during an intervention. I aim to work in a trauma-informed way, which includes explaining interventions, exploring ways to help you feel safe and grounded, and adjusting our work based on what feels accessible and manageable for you at that time. I view these moments as valuable parts of the therapeutic process, helping us better understand your needs, move thoughtfully through the work together, and collaboratively plan our steps forward. To support a strong therapeutic relationship, I regularly check in to ensure the pace and direction of therapy feel helpful and aligned with your needs.

My counselling style is influenced by cognitive and behavioural approaches, mindfulness and acceptance-based practices, and attachment theory. The therapeutic approaches I draw from most frequently include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), including Trauma-Focused ACT, Core Conflictual Relationship Theme (CCRT), attachment theory, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR).

My academic training includes an MEd in Counselling Psychology and an honours BA in Psychology. I maintain a Registered Psychotherapist license with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) designation from the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. It’s important to me that my work be guided by approaches that have worked for other people, so my practice is continuously inspired by professional development activities. I pursue on-going professional development through training, clinical supervision as needed, and consultation with colleagues.
